Bangladesh Association for Social Advancement (BASA) is a non-governmental,non-political, non-profitable, non-political development organization established in 1991 with the objective to empower the distressed, underprivileged; especially the deprived and vulnerable people and to improve their quality of life. Accordingly, organization emphasizes on non-directive, bottom up and people’s participatory development approach and working strategy. Since its inception organization focused on capacity building through training, providing basic education, poverty alleviation through micro credit operation, food security, water & sanitation, health & hygiene promotion, addressing environment & climate change issues for sustainable development. Over the years of its operations, BASA also established working relationship with various government agencies and international partners through its outstanding performance. After years of development actions, the programmes are now in operation in 20 districts convening various reverence areas os Bangladesh including hill districts sandy clits, plain land etc. These programmes include  more than 100000 primary beneficiaries. BASA maintains it’s Head Office in Dhaka while seventy (70) local offices spread across the Upazillas and Villages of working areas. Over 550 dedicated and committed staff are currently working in the Head and Branch Offices. Bangladesh Association for Social Advancement (BASA) aspires for a society free from poverty, oppression and deprivation through self-actualization and resource mobilization where every individual will be able to live in peace and communal harmony by enjoying the rightful share of the resources belonging to the society.

Mission

To create a positive and sustainable socio-economic change in the lives of the poor and disadvantaged, particularly women, indigenous people and persons with disability through micro-finance supported by various social development programmes and services.

Objectives:

Prime objective of BASA is to develop the socio –economic conditions of the targeted beneficiaries through execution of their decision and using untapped local resources, participation in development activities and fulfillment of their legitimate rights.

Strategic Goals:

1.Creation of livelihood opportunities for the poor and the disadvantaged.

2.Access to basic social services such as health, education and nutrition. 

3.Sustainable management of the environment and create resilience against  impact of climate change and disaster 

4.Promotion of human rights, social justice and legal rights of disadvantaged groups

5.Development of competent staff through skill development and capacity building.

Governance:

BASA adopts decentralized participatory management system in program planning & implementation, monitoring & supervision. As per its constitution it has two stairs committees General Body and Executive Body. General Body consisting of 21 members provides approval to all major policy matters of the organization including approval of annual plans & budget. Executive body consisting of 09 members elected by General body is responsible for smooth operational control and to execute the policies. Executive Director acts as the chief executive and ex. Officio secretary of the General body and the executive body. Executive Director is supported by central management team (CMT) consisting of all departmental heads and senior staffs BASA addresses staff compliance and take management decision according to its policy and manual as such Gender policy, Financial and Administrative Policy, Procurement manual etc and it has established a gender sensitive working environment.
